Wilson is Four!
Oh, my little one who is so quickly becoming independent and thoughtful and adventurous and risk-taking! Four, oh, four! I remember when you were inside me and now you can climb up walls. Now you tell me that the chocolate smell is "disturbing you" and that you want to be an astronaut vet and live in Africa when you grow up. Some moments you challenge me, but I love that your wit, and will, and energy are so strong. This Christmas season with you has been the best yet, hanging up lights with you, getting to stay up a bit later and talk over drawing and hot chocolate at the kitchen table, and seeing in your eyes the wonder of sustaining rituals. You make me smile so much. I love you, bird!

By the sea...
...well, actually the ohio river, but it's as close to the sea as we southern/midwesterners can get. Here are a few shots from a lovely grey Monday...Wilson wanted to dress up as a "real fisherman" to board the replica Nina and Pinta ships. Even Jane was longingly reaching for the grey waters. Cannot wait for our October trip to the sea (and of course to see my baby brother and his lovely bride tie the knot!)

I've been absent in blogland for a while, but hope to return soon with more frequency. It's the autumnal equinox today and even though the weather feels balmy and hot, I still am excited about the turning of things, the raging goldenrod and the leaves falling into puddles. We've been apple picking and visited the last of the summer festivals, and pumpkin is just around the corner! Ah, pumpkin soup, pumpkin beer, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin muffins...
